News
All students at South Elementary will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2nd.  It will be fun to learn more about his life and read some of the books he wrote.
We have been focusing on comprehension skills.  Students should be able to answer questions about key details after listening to a text read aloud as well as be able to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas clearly.
In math, we have been working on subtraction sentences and learning about “related facts”.  (3 + 1 = 4; 4 – 1 = 3)  We are also still working hard on subtraction concepts.
We have been writing in our journals and the students are becoming more and more skilled in their writing abilities.
Thank you again for your support.  Enjoy your week and thank you for sharing your children with me!

Thank you for your continued support at home!  I appreciate you doing homework, reading, and providing the many other educational experiences for your child that you do.  We will continue to work hard at school and learn new concepts that relate to the kindergarten academic curriculum as well as learning about life skills.
The students are learning to use narrative language to tell about the setting, characters, events, actions and scenes from fiction stories.  We will continue to talk about comprehension and questioning skills.
We will finish our chapter on subtraction in math this week and move on to numerals 11-16.
Have a wonderful week and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

News
Thank you for meeting with me during SEP Week.  It was wonderful to discuss your child’s progress with each of you. I appreciate your support and help in making this a great year of learning for these precious little ones.
Remember our Valentine’s Party on Wednesday, Feb. 14th.  The students can bring Valentines to their classmates any time before that date.  There are 21 students in our class.  To avoid confusion, please do not have your child put individual classmates names on the Valentines, just have them sign their own name on the back of the Valentine or on the envelope.  It simplifies the “passing out” process so much!  THANK YOU!
This week we will continue learning about subtraction in our Go Math program.  We are reading our own books in Language Arts and the students are coming along great with their reading.
Thank you again for all you do!  Enjoy your week!  As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
