News
Reading at home and helping with homework make such a big difference in your child’s learning!  You are a wonderful support to your precious kindergartner.  Thank you for making school a priority!
We have a student teacher in our room.  Her name is Miss Deatherage and she will be with us for the next 6 weeks.  We are looking forward to getting to know her and see the great things she has to offer.
In math we are finishing up on Chapter 7 with representing, counting, and writing numerals 11-19.  Your child will be bringing their assessment home in the next few days.
We are continuing to read and write decodable words and stories in our Language Arts program.  It is exciting to see the progress and the confidence that is happening with each student.  They are also getting really good at writing phrases and sentences.
         Have a wonderful week!

Friday Treat Day Assignment
Friday, Feb. 24:

Early Literacy Idea
Have your child clap the syllables in different words.  (For example, “ba-na-na” gets three claps.)

News
Thank you for your continued support at home!  I appreciate you doing homework, reading, and providing the many other educational experiences for your child that you do.  We will continue to work hard at school and learn new concepts that relate to the kindergarten academic curriculum as well as life skills.
Students are learning to use narrative language to tell about the setting, characters, events, actions and scenes from fiction stories.  We will continue to talk about comprehension and questioning skills.
We are learning about numerals 11-16 in math.  The students are learning how to figure out how they can decompose these numbers as “ten ones and some more ones” as well as learning to write each numeral correctly.
Have a wonderful week and please let me know if there are any questions or concerns.

We are excited about our Valentine’s Party on Tuesday, February 14th.  Remember the students can bring Valentines to their classmates any time before then.  To avoid confusion, please do not have your child put individual classmates names on the Valentines, just have them sign their own name on the back of the Valentine or on the envelope.  It simplifies the “passing out” process so much!  There are 23 AM students and 20 PM students.
Please continue sending in box tops!  It is such a great way to earn money for our school and we appreciate your help and support!
Kindergarten Registration for the 2017-18 school year for South Elementary will be on Wednesday, March 29th from 1:00-3:00 in the gym.  Please help spread the word to those who have kindergartners attending South next year.
Thank you again for all you do!  I love your children and am excited to see them each school day!  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
