FEBRUARY/MARCH
Because of SEP Week, (March 7-11) Center time will change slightly for the PM class.  On Wednesday, Center time will be from 1:30-2:00.  Thank you to those who help at Centers each week!  You are greatly appreciated--AND thank you to all of you who help with your child’s education.  I have wonderful parental support and it shows in your child’s progress!

This week we will be discussing the importance of good health and nutrition.  We will talk about healthy food vs. “junk” food and a little about the food pyramid.  On March 2nd, we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday.

Please return the February Reading Calendar with your child’s reading time recorded by Monday, March 7th.  Remember our kindergarten reading goal is 5 hours per month, (15 minutes a night for 5 nights a week).  The March calendar is coming home in your child’s homework folder today.

FEBRUARY
It was exciting and informative for our classes to learn from our guest speakers from Dr. Albrecht’s Pediatric Dental Office. The students learned a lot about the importance of taking good care of their teeth, mouth and gums.  February is National Dental Awareness Month and as part of this, Dr, Albrecht’s Office is having a contest.  If you are interested in having your child participate, you can log on to: cedarkidsdental@gmail.com for more information.

We have been working hard on recognizing and writing the numerals 21-30 and will begin learning subtraction facts to 5.  We have also learned 30 sight words and will continue to add to our list weekly.  As always we continue to review proper letter formation and sounds of the alphabet.    Please ask your child to predict what a book is about just by looking through the book.  (We call it going on a picture walk in class).  Then after you read the book, ask him/her to recall what actually happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story (retelling in sequence).  This helps with comprehension skills.

Thanks again for all you do to support your child at home!

FEBRUARY
We will discuss patriotism and the birthdays of Presidents Washington and Lincoln.  We will talk about some of the things they did to contribute to our great country.  We will also be involved with learning about American symbols.

I love your children!  Each one has a special place in my heart and I enjoy seeing the progress each one continues to make.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

We will be having Kindergarten registration on Wednesday, March 16 from 12:00-3:30 in the gym.  Please help spread the word to those who have kindergartners attending South Elementary next year.

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT AT HOME!

FEBRUARY
Wow, it is hard to believe that February is already here!  January was a very productive learning month for us.  Look for your child’s kindergarten assessment, DIBELS scores and their reading level in his/her homework folder.  Thank you for your continued help and support!  We will continue to work hard in school on those skills not yet mastered and encourage you to do the same at home.

If you signed up to bring items for our Valentine’s Day party, I have stapled a reminder for you in the homework packet. You can send them with your child to school. The party will be on Monday, February 14.  The students can bring Valentines for their classmates any time before then.  The morning class has 24 students (11 girls/13 boys) and the afternoon has 18 students (9 girls/9 boys).  To avoid confusion, please have your child just sign his/her name on the back of the Valentine or on the envelope.  It simplifies the “passing out” process so much!

Have a wonderful week and thanks again for all you do!
