NEWS
Our annual school wide Reading Celebration will be held on Monday, May 14th.   We want every child to be able to attend!  The requirements for attending this activity include:
  1. Returning the take-home library book (the one in the zip-lock bag) a minimum of three times a week.  If you have lost the book, the cost to replace it is $5.
  2. Returning the April reading calendar signed by a parent with at least 300 minutes read for the month.
If you are interested in requesting a teacher for your child for next year, the form will be on line for you to fill out and return to Mr. Oldroyd.  He will accept these requests during the first two weeks of April.

We will be presenting an End of Year Kindergarten program for parents and grandparents on Wednesday, May 23rd.  The morning classes will perform at 6:00 PM and the afternoon classes will perform at 7:00 PM.  Please mark your calendars and let grandparents know about it as well. More information will follow soon.

We are continuing to work hard at school to learn skills necessary for success in first grade.  Thank you again for your diligence at home!  Our Kindergarten Assessment and DIBELS testing will begin on April 30 and go through May 11th.  If your child will not be here during these dates, please let me know.  Also, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Our annual Reading Celebration will be held on May 14th.  The featured author is Andrew Clements.  We will be reading some of his books in our classes to get the students more familiar with his work.  If you would like to read some at home with your child as well, that would be great!  I’m sure the public library has some of his books.  We want every student to attend so please keep reading with your child at home and have hime/her read to you.

If you are interested in requesting a teacher for your child for next year, a form will be on line for you to fill out at the end of this month.  Mr. Oldroyd will accept these requests during the first two weeks of April.

Our PTA has recently started a paper-recycling program at South Elementary.  There are boxes in each classroom where papers are collected.  When there is a significant amount collected, students take the boxes to a larger bin. The whole school is participating and working together to fill the bins to the top.

We are continuing to work hard at school to learn skills necessary for success in first grade.  Thank you again for your diligence at home!  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

NEWS

We are continuing to focus on skills that will help prepare each student for first grade.  It is exciting to see the growth each child has made and will continue to make throughout this year.
This week we talked about the sound “th” and have had fun thinking of words that begin with this sound.  We have also talked about the double "ee" rule.  It has been fun talking about word families as well.
Our subtraction facts are coming along.  We will continue to practice them and addition facts as well.
Remember the deadline for ordering a school yearbook has been extended to March 15th.  The cost is $12 and I have the order forms in my room if you are interested.
Thank you again for all you are doing!  As always, please feel free to call or e-mail with any questions or concerns!

NEWS

I look forward to meeting with each of you this week to discuss the progress of your child.  Please bring him/her with you to the SEP Conference.
It is hard to believe how fast this year is going.  Thanks for sharing your wonderful children with me.  I enjoy each one so much!  Thank you for your parental support—it shows in your child’s success!
We will continue to learn important skills that will help him/her be prepared for first grade. We have been focusing on the sounds “sh”, “ch”, “ing”, and “qu”. Be sure to ask your child to tell you about these sounds!
We are getting so brilliant with our math skills!  Our addition and subtraction is coming along nicely!  We continue to practice writing our numbers correctly and graph lots of things in our classroom.
Through our unit on health and safety, the students learn skills to help themselves be healthy and know how to be safe in various situations.
Please feel free to contact me any time with any questions or concerns.  Thank you for all you do!
