News
What delightful kindergarten students!  I am enjoying each one and appreciate your support at home!
Units one and two in our CKLA program lay the foundation for students’ future reading and writing skills, part of which includes blending sounds to form words.  The students are getting really good at doing this! We are also practicing recognizing the initial sounds in their classmates’ names as well as initial sounds in other words.
In math we are focusing on the numerals 0-5.  Ask your child what a five frame is and have them write the numerals 0-5 for you.  They can even draw a five frame for you and can draw circles inside to represent the numeral you ask them to produce.
Enjoy your week and thank you again for your support at home!

News
Remember Sue Okroy, Utah State Board of Education specialist in literacy tutoring and early education will be presenting a literacy training for parents on Monday September 18th.  It will be held in the gym at 2:30 pm.  This will be an excellent opportunity for parents to receive ideas on how to help your children at home with reading skills.
We have been practicing blending syllables to form words in our CKLA program.  For example, cup…cake=cupcake; bed…room=bedroom.  We will now begin blending sounds to form words.  For example, /o/…/f/=off; /m/…/ee/=me.
In our Go Math program the students are understanding more about the relationship between numbers and quantities.  When counting objects, students are able to pair each object with one and only one number name.
Thank you again for your support at home!  Enjoy your week and please contact me with any questions or concerns.

Your children are wonderful! Thank you for sharing them with me.  I am a firm believer that parent/teacher communication is vital.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have.  Each student is making progress in every area of the curriculum.  I appreciate your support at home!  Thank you for reading with your child as well.  That is such a great way to help in the learning process.
A homework folder will come home with your child on Monday.  Please help your child complete the packet and keep the folder at home until the following Monday (even if he/she completes it before that time).  A new homework packet will then be sent home and the procedure will continue throughout the year.
Enjoy your week and thanks so much for everything!

News
We have worked hard on establishing a routine and effective classroom management skills so optimal learning will occur with each child.  Let me explain how our classroom management works.  If a student is disrupting the rest of the class, he/she gets a clothespin on the green stoplight.  This is just a reminder.  If he/she needs two reminders, the clothespin is moved to yellow and five minutes of recess is missed.  If three reminders are needed, he/she sits on the “thinking chair” away from the other children.  After a few minutes, I visit with him/her and ask if they are ready to join the class again.  If there is still a problem, he/she visits with Mr. Oldroyd and it will be determined if the skills building program is needed.  Your child will bring home a paper for you to sign if he/she was on the red stoplight that day.  I will also contact you so we can further discuss how we can work together to improve the behavior.  Thank you for your support!
Have a wonderful week and please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
