Early Literacy Idea
Help your child notice print in
the environment (signs, displays, food
packages, cans, jars, and other every day items.)
Remember our
reading goal is 15 minutes a night/five night a week. Please read to your child and have him/her
read to you! This is so important! Thanks for all you do!
News
We had a
great week back in school and the children are adjusting well after the long
break. We are finishing up Chapter 4 in
Go Math. Please look for your child’s
assessment in his/her backpack in the next few days. We will begin our addition chapter and
continue using objects and drawings to solve story problems.
For
Language Arts, we will continue reading and writing decodable words, phrases,
and sentences. We are getting great at “chaining”—reading
one-syllable short vowel words in which one sound is added, substituted, or
omitted (am, jam, ham, hum, hug, jug, jog, jot, job, rob). Being able to
distinguish between similarly spelled words by identifying the sounds of the
letters that differ (peg, pig, pin, and pen) is another skill we are mastering.
Enjoy
your week and thank you for sharing your children with me! Please let me know if you have any questions
or concerns.
