Early Literacy
Idea
Help
your child develop comprehension skills by having them retell the important
parts of the story.
Remember our
reading goal is 15 minutes a night/five night a week. Please read to your child and have him/her
read to you! This is so important! Thanks for all you do!
News
Please
return the signed January reading calendar with your child for their free pizza
certificates. It sure is exciting to
hear them reading and figuring out unfamiliar words. Keep up the great work at home by regularly
having your child read to you and you read to them.
We have
been writing in our journals using inventive spellings. The students are instructed to (1) say the
sentence they want to write (2) segment each word and listen for the sounds
they know (3) write each sound (4) try their best.
The kids
are becoming great at figuring out number pairs (or number bonds) and then completing
addition problems. We talk about why
more than one number pair is possible (6= 1 + 5, 6= 4 + 2, 6= 3 + 3).
Thank you
again for all you do! Enjoy your week
and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
