Remember our reading goal is 15 minutes a day/five days a week.  Please read to your child and have him/her read to you!  This is so important!  Thank you for all you do to help with your child’s education!

News
Your child has learned about the sounds /m/, /a/, /t/, /d/, /o/, /c/.  We have blended these sounds together to make words such as mom, dot, tot, mad, dad.  We have also blended the sounds together to make silly words/nonsense words: dod, dom, om, mot (words that are not real, but can be blended just like real words).  Studies have shown the ability to read nonsense words are among the most accurate indicators of reading proficiency.
In math we have been learning about what a number means in terms of size and quantity and understanding the relative position of a number, (i.e. after 6 comes 7, etc).  The students are getting really good at comparing and identifying number sets and determining which set is greater, smaller or the same size.
We will have “Red Ribbon Week” activities on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday that our wonderful PTA has planned for the students.  Please refer to the flier that will be in your child’s homework folder on Monday.
Our classroom Halloween party is on Friday.  Please remember that costumes are not allowed at school.   We will still have lots of fun!  Thank you again to those who are helping with this!

As always, please feel free to contact me any time!

News
This is a short week because of the Harvest Holiday and professional teacher development days so we will not have homework for the students.

Here is a head’s up for Halloween—we will have a classroom party on Friday, Oct. 30th.  Please do not have your child wear a costume to school on that day.  Costumes can be a distraction and it just makes it hard for the students to concentrate.  Thank you for your understanding.   We still have lots of fun and will have some snacks/treats, and play some games. Thank you so much for the people helping with the party!  It is greatly appreciated!

Have a wonderful week!  Thanks again for your support!  Please let me know if you have questions or concerns.

News
We are continuing to learn lots of great things and each student is progressing nicely.  We have worked on the sight words: me, see, I, can, like, look.  Ask your child to read these words to you!  Also, we are getting really good at blending sounds together to make two and three letter words.

In math, we are masters at writing from 0-5!  We have also been learning about greater than, less than and the same number.

We have also been studying the five senses and how we use them every day in many different ways.

With the weather turning cooler, please be sure to label your student’s jackets and coats so that we can keep track of whom they belong to.

Have a wonderful week!  Thanks again for your support!  Please let me know if you have questions or concerns.

We are having a great time learning and I am enjoying each one of your children.  Every one of them has something special to contribute to our class!  Thank you for your help and support at home!

Reading aloud with your child is fundamental to his/her learning to read and being excited about reading.  Please continue to read daily (five nights a week) with your child for at least 15 minutes.  Remember this includes the books you read to them as well as what they read to you.  Please send back the September reading calendar with your signature included so your child can earn his/her prize.  The October reading calendar should have come home with your child on October 1st.
