May
The Read-a-Thon will begin Monday, May 2nd and end on Friday, May 20th.  A letter will come home on Monday in your child’s homework folder explaining the activity/reading calendar and the minute tracking sheet.  An exciting celebration will take place at the end of the Read-a-Thon for those students who completed the designated reading times.  As a result, this week will be our last week of the regular homework packets that come home weekly in your child’s homework folder.  THANKS for being so diligent in helping your child throughout the year!

The students are excited to present the Kindergarten Program on Wednesday, May 11th.  If your child is in the morning class, please have him/her meet in the school library at 5:45.  The afternoon class will meet in the library at 6:45.  The morning class will perform at 6:00 PM and the afternoon class will perform at 7:00 in the gym.  Please have your child dress in Sunday clothes if possible.

Just a head’s up—On the last day of school, both morning and afternoon classes will meet from 8:50-10:40.  We do this in order to allow all students the chance to meet with their 1st grade teachers. Thank you to those that have to change your schedules that day!  More information will follow later, but please feel free to call or email me with questions or concerns.

Talk with your child about everyday happenings.  Ask open-ended questions that require more than a “yes” or “no” answer.  Ask “what if” questions.

APRIL
The children are excited to present the kindergarten program on May 11th.  Please mark your calendars and let grandparents know about this special night as well.  The students have worked hard and will continue to work hard to get it ready for you to enjoy.  I want to give you a little more information about it so that you can plan ahead.  Please have your daughters wear dresses or skirts and your sons wear dress-pants and a nice shirt.  It will take place in the gym and will last approximately 30 minutes. Please bring your child to the library twenty minutes before their performance time.  Performance time for the morning classes is 6:00 and for the afternoon classes, it will begin at 7:00 PM.

Again, let me emphasize the importance of having your child in attendance this last month of school.  If there is a conflict, please let me know so that arrangements can be made for end-of-year testing.

At Spring SEP's, "Community Rewards" cards were distributed to parents.  This program is an easy way to give dollars to our school. All you have to do is:
1.  Register your card online at www.CommunityRewardsUtah.com
2.  Scan your card each time you make a purchase at an approved location and a percentage of each sale will go to South Elementary.  An approved location will have a sticker on the door or a poster by the counter.  Last month South Elementary had the largest rewards check given to any school in Iron County!  During the months of April and May, we can earn double rewards each time a parent scans their card.  Community Rewards is EASY and a great way to support our local merchants and schools.
If you have questions, please visit www.CommunityRewardsUtah.com or if you need another card please email a request to pearsonmaryb@gmail.com

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!  THANK YOU!!!

We will be reviewing important concepts so that each student will have the best learning experience possible!  It is important that your child is in attendance. I encourage you to look over your child’s assessment and review any items that are not yet mastered.  Of course we will be working hard at school too!  I am so pleased with each student’s progress and appreciate all you are doing at home!  Our testing for the last quarter of the year will begin on May 4th and will go until May 14th.   PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD HERE.  If there is a problem, let me know so we can make other arrangements.

The Read a Thon for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades will begin on Monday, May 2nd.  It will go for three weeks and end on Friday May 20th with a celebration for those students who have read the designated minutes.  More information will be coming in the next week or so and we will let you know more details when the date gets closer.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!  THANK YOU!!!

APRIL
We are excited to go on our Spring Field trip to the SUU Farm on Thursday, April 7th.  We are keeping our fingers crossed for good weather, but please watch and dress your child according to what is happening on that day.  Shoes work better than sandals because of the hay, dirt, etc. Remember we will not have Centers on that day so those of you who usually come, enjoy a day off.

Mr. Oldroyd now has the form available on the school website for you to fill out if you are interested in requesting a teacher for next year.  Your requests will need to be on this specific form that you can copy off and bring to him by April 15th.  It must be on this form.  He will not accept it after April 15th.
